GROWING BRUGMANSIA: They are a very easy plant to grow and can be grown as a pot plant over the winter or a patio or tub plant year around in cold locations. Brugmansia are a tropical plants and will not take freezing. Once they have a good established root system the can be allowed to freeze down and will come back up the next spring if the roots are not allowed to freeze (protect them with a sheltered location near a south wall and mulch or insulate them. They can also be dug up and brought inside for the winter. It might be wise to take some cuttings and root them over the winter so you will have new plants in the spring just in case. PROPAGATION OF BRUGMANSIA The cuttings root readily (I root about 5,000 a year with over a 95% success rate). Make sure you do not plant upside down. Use a good potting mix and keep damp but not soaking wet. Good light so they do not become leggy and a temperature around 70 degrees will result in roots in 2 to 4 weeks and new growth soon. They can be rooted with the angled end down and the top bud or buds out of the mix or they can also be rooted completed covered in a horizontal position under about 1/4 to ½ inch of soil. They can also be rooted in about 1 to 2 inches of water in a in a container (vertically) but this is just an extra step and not really necessary.
